Summary0000080: Automation not working when rendering to WAV with certain plugin
Description

The VSTi plugin macro works correctly during playback, but not during export of sound file (wav, mp3).

The VST uses a fix value of the parameter when exporting, ignoring the value of SFx and Zxx or the macro mapping. Song playback correctly maps the effects of SFx and Zxx to the parameter, producing the desired sound.

Steps To Reproduce

Make a macro for your favorite VST, for example control the LFO controling a filter. Export to mp3. The resulting file will have been rendered without the macro's effect.

Additional Information

The issue was solved by using a different VSTi plugin. The plugin that didn't work was Odyssey by synth school (http://www.synthschool.com/downloads.html).

As far as I can see, this is a bug in the plugin and not a problem with OpenMPT. Have you seen the plugin to behave differently in other hosts?

I can't properly set up the other host to achieve midi controls, so I won't be able to test this soon.

So, as reported in issue 0000364, this might not only affect parameter automation, but also pitchbend changes.

I've send a report to the SynthMaker developer, maybe he can help here - to find out whether this is a bug in SynthMaker, OpenMPT or these plugins.

I could confirm that the this plugin and the plugins from those related bug reports are broken when rendering to WAV in Reaper as well, so it's definitely a plugin bug. The only solution to this problem would be to render in realtime, e.g. by using a recorder plugin like this: http://www.voxengo.com/product/recorder/
