Summary0001725: OpenMPT hangs when opening the program when a new update is released
Description

Whenever a new version of OpenMPT is released, the program does not open and instead displays the update balloon at the upper left-hand corner. When attempting to interact with the balloon, the program will hang and become unresponsive, and eventually crash.

Steps To Reproduce

This problem usually happens every time a new version of the program is released, and this behavior occurs upon opening it.

Additional Information

From the Windows Event Viewer, the source says Application Hang, returning an event ID of 1002. According to the log:

The program OpenMPT.exe version 1.31.3.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Unfortunately that Windows error report is not very helpful in understanding this issue. In your previous report (0001602) you also did not reply to the questions asked, so if you really want this issue to be fixed, please respond to our queries or there will be nothing we can do to fix the issue.

  1. In a related issue (0001723) another user suspected that the problem related to their multi-monitor setup, so please confirm if you are using a computer setup with multiple screens, their resolutions, DPI settings and how they are positioned relative to each other.
  2. Please provide your mptrack.ini file, accessible via Help -> Show Settings Folder.
  3. If you have upgraded to the new version already, please downgrade to a previous version (https://download.openmpt.org/archive/openmpt/1.31/) to provoke the hang again. When the hang happens, open Task Manager, find OpenMPT, right-click and choose "Create Dump File" from the context menu. Upload that dump file somewhere so we can have a look at it.
