Summary | 0000445: Greater "Continue as soon as MIDI notes received" control
Description | This is a personal feature request while I get used to using a MIDI controller with OpenMPT. In the past, I've mostly done input at step 0 in non-realtime, but would like to improve my realtime recording capabilities. Getting notes synced with proper quantization the first time is still a bit of an issue for me, and I find myself going back and forth between the option "Continue Song as soon as MIDI notes received" being on and off. In some other DAWs, this "Sync Record Start" option is a toggle next to the recording arm; I know that OpenMPT has an option which seems to allow this directly from the controller, if your keyboard supports it, but mine doesn't (it's rather basic), so I'm hoping to see a button to toggle this option on/off on the main interface, or at least the patterns tab. This way, it's a lot faster to enable and disable this feature when I want/need to test out a few notes without the song starting again. Furthermore, the feature seems locked to continue with the basic Play option, and offers no control over whether to play from the position, or start with Replay Pattern. It would be cool to be able to select where to start when sync-to-start recording is armed. This is so that earlier patterns aren't accidentally smashed when going past the end of the pattern :)

While there is no button, the latest test versions have a freely assignable keyboard shortcut to achieve this. Hopefully this is enough to achieve what you want?
There is now a dropdown next to that option to select how to continue playback as of r22685. Please give it a try. Test builds will be available from https://builds.openmpt.org/builds/ within a few hours. |
