As harbinger noted in request 0000135, it’s not a rare situation when plugins are named strangely or there’s simply a lot of them. Samples and instruments often behave alike too.

I suggest adding customizable tags to plugins, instruments and samples. It could be like tags in new versions of GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/release-notes/images/2.8-resource-tagging-brushes.png). There is an area to enter tags to filter manually (with autocompletion) or to open a list box to select existing tags from it, and there is analogous area for editing of selected plugin’s tags. Or something you seem looking nice.

There isn’t any problem storing tag info for plugins, but I’m afraid there is one for samples and instruments — these are moved or copied in another location more often, thus storing tag data in any particular place can’t help, and storing it in a file with same name as sample’s but different extension isn’t any good when sample being renamed, and also this is more time to read tag data… But any choice of tag infrastructure for a samples/instruments would be great anyway!
