Summary0000134: Expand plugin selection from Instruments page
Description

Right now, Jojo's new feature to assign a plugin to an Instrument by choosing an empty slot in the Plugin combobox is extremely handy. But what if we've already chosen one and we need a new one? Must we still navigate to the General page, and do it the old-fashioned way?

I suggest that EVEN if we've already assigned an instrument and we choose its slot, the Plugin Manager still opens. If the user doesn't want another plugin (perhaps he chose this slot by accident), he can still cancel.
I would think the only reason a user would choose a plugin slot in the Instruments page is to ALWAYS assign it to an Instrument slot.

This new feature would make testing new VSTi's even quicker...

Uhm, for all occupied plugin slots there's an "Editor" button next to the dropdown list which would become pointless if the plugin manager popped up every time you changed plugins. It might work with a second button, but there's not really any space for that in the current GUI.

Huh?...I mean---

Huh?

The Editor button is not pertinent to the request, and a second button isn't necessary. (As a matter of fact, if this FR were implemented, the Editor would become indispensible.)

If you don't see this function as universally acceptable, perhaps a General Option is what's called for.

The Editor button is not pertinent to the request

Yes it is. Imagine you have plugin A assigned to an instrument, but want to switch to plugin B and edit it. You'd select plugin B from the dropdown list, but then you'd get the plugin selection dialog in your way, even though all you really wanted to do was clicking the "Editor" button. That's just way too intrusive. So having some kind of "Load New" button would be a lot more useful IMO.
