Let me ask first: Why don't you use whatever keyboard shortcut is set to produce a Note Off (==) and then create a volume envelope for that instrument that instantly goes to 0 after the sustain portion? C00 doesn't really stop the note (it just mutes it) and is only really a workaround for formats like MOD where no note-off events exist.
