As many improvements that have been made on the Sample Map dialog, it's still laborious and clunky when trying to assign multiple samples in one instrument setting. Instead of red dots and choosing which sample to show, perhaps an intuitive, color-coded, and labeled keyboard would help visualize how the samples are set up. (See the attached graphic for my vision.)
The new Sample Map will allow the user to assign not just samples, but also pitch designations and note names, which, if specified, would override the tuning's note name in the sample map section and dialog (this would make it easier for example when creating drum kits with different drum samples). The note names would appear only when hovering the mouse over a key in the dialog, or better yet, in the Sample Map section of the Instruments page as well.
