Summary0001274: PC freezes with audio loop while selecting part of sample while it is being played
Description

My PC freezes with looping audio (but without BSOD, and requiring hard power off), when I select part of a sample while it is still being played. This usually happens only with gigantic samples (long as songs), especially those rendered from Render to Sample.

It sounds like you are running OpenMPT on a very weak CPU. Please go to Help -> About OpenMPT and copy the contents of the first ("OpenMPT") tab here.

Also try running OpenMPT with the /noAssembly command line switch to see if it makes a difference.

Your OS version states Windows XP, and if its even a 32-bit one, then you're probably running into RAM issues. Windows might swap out data of other programs to the hard drive, which is a slow process.

Swapping is a good point - in addition to the information from the About dialog, knowing the amount of RAM installed in the PC would also be very useful.

And upgrading to the latest OpenMPT would also not hurt, although I don't believe it contains any fixes specific to this issue.
