Summary0000882: "This version of OpenMPT requires Windows 7 or later" on Windows 7
Description

Double clicking on a module file (.it .xm .s3m etc) to open it in ModPlug always results in an error message: "This version of OpenMPT requires Windows 7 or later"

Problem is, I am running Windows 7 64-bit. ModPlug works, it just shows the error message every time I open it

Steps To Reproduce

double click a module file to open it in ModPlug or right click the module file and select open with OpenMPT

ModPlug opens up

Error message displays telling me to download an older version of ModPlug when I do not need to. I am running Windows 7, the required OS for the current version of ModPlug.

I'm not sure what's going on here.
The message may be misleading in case you were running on a CPU not supported by OpenMPT Win32 builds (i.e. a CPU not supporting SSE2 instructions). However, as you are running Windows 7 64bit, your CPU does in fact support SSE2 (all 64bit CPUs do). Thus, this cannot be the problem here.
Did you ever enable some kind of compatibility mode for OpenMPT / mptrack.exe?
You can find compatibility settings the following way:
-> locate the installed mptrack.exe in Explorer
-> right-click it
-> Properties
-> Compatibility

There is nothing assigned in compatibility. It doesn't do this if double clicking the ModPlug icon on the desktop, it only does this when double clicking a module file to open in ModPlug

You have stated in previous reports that you are running Windows 7 32-bit, in which case you are probably running it on a CPU that does not support SSE2 as manx states. Are you sure you are really running Windows 7 64-bit as you stated in this report?

If it does in fact only happen when opening files via the Windows Shell (i.e. by double-clicking in Explorer) and does not happen when starting OpenMPT directly, I have really no idea what's going on.
Are you running Explorer in compatibility mode?

I haven't had that Windows 7 32-bit machine in over a year. That machine is dead. This is a Dell Optiplex 780 Desktop. That 32-bit machine was an old Dell laptop. I have a different laptop now, an HP also running Windows 7 64-bit. This desktop is running Windows 7 64-bit as well. ModPlug never did this until the last couple of versions. I don't recall it ever happening in May or June. I got this machine in May of this year.
